How do I use this?

However you want! Sip it straight from a shotglass (or heck, go straight for the bottle, I won’t tell!), or enjoy it with:

  • drinks: sparkling water, tea, smoothie, coffee, or juice
  • mix it into yogurt or oatmeal
  • pour atop pancakes, waffles, French toast, or ice cream
  • and more!

How much should I take?

Personally, I take a tablespoon a day, or every few hours if I feel I need the boost. My children are young (2 and 5), and take a teaspoon either daily, or every few hours.

During germ season, we take it every day we’re around crowds – school, outings, etc. During the summer months, we take it only a few days a week – especially if the kids at the playground have runny noses or coughs!

You may notice the 2 tbsp serving size on the bottle. This amount is set by the USDA for all syrups. You do not need to take this much at once.

Does this contain Sambucus Nigra elderberries?

Yes, Health Junkie Elderberry Syrup is made with Sambucus Nigra elderberries. This is the same type of berry used in the standardized supplement Sambucol, the focus of many randomized, double-blind, peer reviewed studies.

Can I heat this?

Absolutely, go for it! The spiced flavors make a nice tea when added to hot water.

How does Health Junkie Elderberry Syrup compare to Sambucol?

  • HJ uses the same strain of elderberry, Sambucus Nigra
  • HJ has zero processed sugar, using local honey or local maple syrup instead (Sambucol uses glucose syrup)
  • HJ has less than half the sugar content of Sambucol (1 – 4.5 grams of sugar per tsp in Health Junkie, and 4 grams of sugar per tsp in Sambucol)
  • Sambucol is over $3/oz, and HJ is less than half the price

Where can I buy HJ Elderberry Syrup?

Order here – we ship anywhere in the USA! Or, find it at a local store.

Can I take this if I’m pregnant/nursing?

This was created by a pregnant mama trying to stay healthy in “germ season,” and she took it throughout nursing her baby as well. If you have any questions or hesitations, please consult with your healthcare provider.

Can I give this to my child?

The Sassy Cinnamon and Bold Ginger flavors are sweetened with honey, and therefore only appropriate for kids over 1 year old.

The Cheeky Tart Cherry is sweetened with maple syrup, and may be given to younger children that are eating other solid food.

Please consult with your pediatrician if you have any questions.

Is this diabetic friendly?

Consider the Cheeky Tart Cherry, a low sugar option, with only 1 gram of sugar per tablespoon. To determine if this is appropriate for you, please consult with your doctor.
